A Brief History
The Bayberry Inn, built in 1837, served as the residence of Navy Captain Charles Hunter and his family. Though Captain Hunter had exquisite taste – evidenced by the details throughout the home – the interior and exterior were both due to be improved after years of ownership change, reconfiguration, and neglect. The Bayberry has been an Inn for several decades and is recognized in Newport. Now, under new ownership, we have succeeded in making the Bayberry stand-out on its own amongst the 100+ other Inns in the surrounding area. Throughout the entire remodeling process, we maintained the common vision of elevating the Home to modern-day standards, while retaining its classical, old-world charm.
Design Approach
The redesign of the Inn included extensive refreshing of the décor, facades, painting and other physical renovations. These refreshments were made possible with the help of extraordinary renovation specialist, Michael Viveiros of Mike’s Building & Remodeling, as well as interior designer, Susan O’Donnell of Sue Casa Interiors. Mike and his talented team meticulously restored all crown molding, inside and out, to its former glory using custom molding knives and a careful hand. Susan O’Donnell’s eye for colors, textures, and details sparked bright life into the airy spaces of the Bayberry. Strong bones + fresh paint, a clean, oceanic color palette, breezy aesthetics, with bold pops of color make for a concert of visual intrigue.
